The Winnebago County Sheriff's department says they're not treating the case as a criminal investigation, but they haven't ruled it out.
Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro says "we're not ruling foul play out .We just don't know. What's suspicious number one is that you have a thirty year old lady who's missing who had a vehicle that was left abandoned under suspicious circumstances."
Smith was last seen at home by her husband. He says she went out to run errands. Family friend Ann Derry explains "she ran to the store, got back home she had to run out again but she'd be back and her husband never heard from her again."
Family, friends and neighbors spent the night searching Schoonmaker Park, which is located not far from where police found Smith's car.
Smith's sister Miraynda Castro just wants to see Katrina home again, "Katrina, sissy, if you're out there please come home. We just love you and miss you. We just want to see you and hear your voice. I'm here waiting for you."
