WTVO caught up with Congressman Bobby Schilling in Freeport today, where he talked about his new endorsement, and outsourcing of jobs at the Sensata plant.
Having products made in the U.S.A is the ultimate goal for Congressman Bobby Schilling. Schilling is running against Cheri Bustos for the 17th congressional district.
"We got to incentivized our companies to stay here and you can't do that by more taxes and more regs. on them," said Schilling.
The congressman along with former U.S. Secretary of Labor Lynn Martin got a chance to tour the Ultrasonic Power facility.
Martin is a former representative for the Freeport area. She is endorsing the congressman for the 17th district.
Both republicans believe its important to keep jobs on American soil and to hire locally-- a philosophy, the vice-president of engineering at Ultrasonic also agrees with.
"All of the employees that we employ here are from the local community. Many of them were educated here at the community college," said Steven Myers.
But not too far from Ultrasonic Power is Sensata Technologies.
The plant is shutting down operations and outsourcing more than 170 jobs to China by November.
The congressman said, outsourcing is a problem that needs to be fixed in Washington.
"We've got to work hard to get the over regulations and taxing under control so that we don't have to deal with any of this happening. You know the best products are made right here in the U.S of A.," said Schilling.Latest poll shows the Schilling and Bustos race to be neck and neck. Both candidates are asking supporters to cast their ballot early for this November election.
