Rockford, Illinois-Marcus Posley is off to a strong start at Ball State, but an injury is holding back Fred Van Vleet at Wichita State.

Posely, a former Winnebago basketball standout, is drawing praise from Ball State Coach Billy Taylor. Taylor says Posley has been impressive during preseason practices. Taylor says Posley is adjusting to playing point guard.  He's doing so well in fact that Posley is challenging junior Jesse Berry for the starting point guard job.

Posley is a freshman at Ball State. He was an All-State player two years ago at Winnebago. He was forced by the IHSA to sit out last season after he transferred to Auburn High School.

Van Vleet, a former Auburn star, has been bothered by a sprained ankle throughout preseason practices. He wasn't able to play in the Shockers exhibition game last Sunday. Wichita State will open its season November 10th.

Van Vleet led Auburn to a third place finish in the State Tournament in March.
