As part of the Illinois Legislative Diabetes Initiative, State Representative Joe Sosnowski (R-Belvidere) and SwedishAmerican Health System are hosting a free, confidential diabetes screening, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at SwedishAmerican Medical Center/Belvidere, located at 1625 S. State Street in Belvidere, near the corner of US-20 and S. State Street.
"Diabetes affects nearly one out of every ten Illinois residents. Early detection and education are critical to diabetes care," said Sosnowski. "This is an opportunity to help adults and children better recognize the signs of diabetes. The earlier a patient is diagnosed with diabetes and gets proper care, the less harmful side effects they will face."
The screening will include a free finger-stick blood sugar test. To ensure the most accurate result, participants are asked to not eat or drink anything for at least 2 hours before the screening.
