Loves Park, Illinois-Rockford's boys of summer won't be the RiverHawks any more. The team is changing its name. Team President Bryan Wickline says the new ownership (Rock River Valley Baseball) which took over the team two years ago wants a fresh start.

The RiverHawks have made numerous changes over the last two years including changing the team colors, and improving the ballpark. RiverHawks stadium had been in foreclosure last year. The team's previous owners were unable to make payments. The stadium is now owned by Northside Community Bank in suburban Chicago. The bank has reached a multi-year lease agreement with the RiverHawks that ensures that the franchise will remain in Loves Park.

Wickline says the new lease has lifted a cloud from over the franshise, just one more reason to seek a fresh start.

The name the team contest will run through midnight January 23rd. Fans can submit suggestions on the RiverHawks website.  The winner of the contest will receiver two lifetime infield box season tickets, a personalized game jersey, a game hat, and that person will also throw out the first pitch for the 2013 Home Opener.
