Rockford fire officials are
still searching for a cause in the early morning fire that killed four on Rockford's south east
side. Officials responded to a call of a structure fire at 1625 10th avenue around 12:30
am Monday morning. When they got there the whole house was engulfed in flames
trapping four residents inside. Among the four victims Isabella Gonzalez who
was just ten months old, along with family members Sharon Cashatt, Dominick
Cashatt, and Douglass Cashatt. RFD officials saying the fire was "accidental"
but that they're not yet sure of a cause. Among other issues officials say they're
not sure if the home had working smoke detectors of if there were smoke
detectors present at all. Two survivors were able to escape from the blaze, the
Red Cross is currently assisting them.
