'Jimmy Kimmel Live' Pulls Upset, Wins 10:35pm Time Period in Debut

HOLLYWOOD -- 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' pulled off a major upset Tuesday, his first night at 10:35pm CST on ABC. He won the time period!  'Medialife' online magazine is reporting that that late night talk show averaged a 2.8 household rating, according to Nielsen metered-market ratings, topping both CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Letterman drew a 2.7, while Leno averaged a 2.4.

'Nightline,' which has been moved back an hour, also won its time period.

ABC's moving 'Kimmel' to 10:35pm is the network's move to get in on the late night entertainment wars against the established Leno and Letterman programs. Some believe Kimmel may have an edge over two men who are longtime competitors and whose shows some critics say have gotten a bit stale over the years.

You can watch 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on WTVO-17 beginning at 10:35pm. The newsmagazine 'Nightline' follows at 11:35pm.
