Springfield - It's back to work for the General Assembly.
New members were sworn-in today at the state capital. Among the freshmen from our area; Sen. Steve Stadelman (D-34th) and Rep. John Cabello (R-68th). Both men are being thrown into the fire so to speak.
They'll need to vote on the controversial topic of same-sex marriage, as well as find a solution to the state's near $100 billion pension deficit. A topic Gov. Pat Quinn (D) says he has renewed optimism for. "A lot of members ran on the platform of pension reform" Quinn says. "I think that'll help us get that job done."
Here's an interesting fact about today's ceremony: three lawmakers from Chicago are facing criminal charges.
