DeKalb - Several NIU employees being investigated for allegedly stealing from the school are back at work.

School leaders placed Joseph Alberti, Mark Beaird, Michael Hall, Keith Jackson, Lawrence Murray, and Kenneth Pugh on paid administrative leave months ago.  But, the school decided if they're going to be paid, they should earn it.

According to the Daily Chronicle, those six returned to work on Monday.  Two others are also on paid leave, but weren't asked to come back yet.

NIU says they were shelling out $1,300 a day as the investigation proceeded.  The employees are accused of stealing and selling the school's scrap metal, and then pocketing the money.
