Child deaths went up by an alarming rate in Illinois last year.
The State Dept. of Children and Family Services reports 90 children died of neglect or abuse in 2012. Many of them died before their first birthday.
Suffocation was the leading cause of death. Many died from unsafe sleeping conditions, for example, a parent accidentally rolling over the child during the night.
Another tragic statistic, 22 kids were murdered.
