Six days into her new job, Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-17th) says the way our country operates needs to change immediately.
"I think we need to take a look at how government functions" says Bustos. "I'm brand new to Congress and maybe this is a little 'pie in the sky' right now, in some cases we need to re-engineer how government works." Bustos says the current business model in Washington would run most businesses, big or small, out of business.
She blames a variety of issues for the nation's rising debt, including over-the-top spending and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bustos says she's already reached out to every new member of Congress to try and work on a solution. But, she warns it'll take time before the nation can pull out of its debt, which currently stands at $16 trillion.
