Carnivores beware! The dramatic decrease in corn production last year could spell higher prices for items such as beef, chicken and pork. Earlier this week the Department of Agriculture announced that Illinois corn production for 2012 was down by more than 30%. For livestock farmers that meant tougher times feeding their animals, and underfed animals equals underfed wallets.

If the drought continues and corn yields stay low, prices for beef and other grocery items will certainly rise, but how much is anyone's guess. A local farmer said " its too early to predict what the weather will be but we've never had two droughts in a row". Although he's certainly keeping his fingers crossed
