Scholarships Awarded at Breakfast Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Rockford- Moderated by WTVO/WQRF Morning Anchor Sachelle Saunders the event focused on giving scholarships to outstanding high school candidates.

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity sponsored the event which included guest speakers like Rockford's Mayor Larry Morrisey. Chairman of the MLK scholarship program Nelson Minter spoke to our cameras on why he thinks these events are so important.

MLK Scholarship Program Chairman Nelson Minter explains "this is very important because it allows the community the chance to support our young scholars that are truly working to become better citizens--they're going to go off to college, then they're going to return to Rockford and become productive citizens"

Minter says above all else the scholarship breakfast serves as a reminder of Dr. King's legacy.
