Machesney Park - It's going to cost more to keep your house warm.
The village voted in favor of a 5% utility tax, much to the dismay of more than hundred residents who showed up speaking out against it. For the average homeowner, they'll pay an extra $8 a month for gas and electric.
Some of the money will be used to fund road maintenance and infrastructure.
