Never since Title IX has the Department of Education made a bigger move. On Friday the Obama administration announced that in order to keep receiving federal money, schools would have to give "equal access" to sports for kids with disabilities.

The new guidelines would either have schools either open up their already established teams or create new adapted leagues for disabled students. Supporters across the country are thrilled at what they're calling a "major victory" in the fight for disabled equality.

But are they celebrating too soon? The new guidelines only allow for equal tryouts, they do not guarantee a spot on the team. But while nothing is guaranteed, supporters say at least the door is open.
