ROCKFORD - Shocked to say the least, many people spent Tuesday riding in their cars with the windows down, that is at least until it started raining.  But even then, people were still confused if it was winter or spring.

"This weather is ridiculous," said Christy Bowgren.

Rain in January?  If you're think it's odd, you're not alone.  "You don't think of rain in January," said Bowgren.  Or 60 plus degrees outside, but people in the Stateline had both Tuesday.

"I walked outside and it was humid, and I don't like that, and it's raining," said Bowgren.

Bowgren was downtown Rockford for a job interview, when she left home she didn't realize she needed an umbrella, or at least a coat.

"I didn't think it was going to rain cause it's January," said Bowgren.

It was also foggy, a weird mix of weather most of us haven't seen this time of year.

"Crazy," said Machesney Park resident Ruth Meyers.  "I think the weather is bipolar and I'm not just talking about the north or the south poles."

But it was the rain Tuesday that slowed down most people.

"You know what they say about the Midwest," said Meyers.  "'If you don't like the weather, don't worry it is going to change in about five minutes.'"

And change it will, the temperatures will be dropping and the snow will soon be falling.  Several inches are being predicted to fall in the Stateline Wednesday.

"Hopefully it will go north or south of us, and not here," said Meyers.

Experts say staying informed is your best defense against this weather roller coaster.

"I try to watch the weather before I leave," said Meyers.  "And I watch your station, so there you go, that really helps me out a lot."

It will start switching over to snow early Wednesday morning, and by around 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. only the white stuff will be falling.  So, be sure to have your coat with you and be prepared for dramatically different temperatures.
