80 Fire Departments Battle 8-Alarm Burlington Fire

80 Fire Departments are fighting a blaze at Echo Lake Foods. A Heavy Rescue Vehicle from the Beloit Fire Department was deployed. This vehicle carries specialized rescue tools, but does not have a fire hose.
The Burlington, Wisconsin food manufacturing plant ignited around 6:00 P.M. Wednesday. Crews were still on scene Thursday morning working to extinguish the blaze that evacuated ten homes and one apartment complex a half mile away.
The factory processes egg products. There was ammonia present prompting the Racine Hazardous Materials Unit to monitor air quality.
The plant is one of Burlington's largest employers and covers about 70,000 square feet. All employees were told not to report to work today.
No injuries have been reported at this time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
