Mayor Rahm Emanuel announcing Thursday there will be 200 more officers patrolling the streets. The officers will be redeployed from administrative positions.

This is the latest move in the wake of several shootings.15 year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot only a week after performing in President Obama's inauguration ceremony. Police say a gunman opened fire on the girl and her group of friends thinking they were in a rival gang.

"When any young person is gunned down without reason, their death makes an impression on all of us and it demands action from all of us," said Mayor Emanuel. "The loss of any child in any community in this city is a loss to the entire city."

There's been more than 40 homicides this month alone, making it one of the deadliest Januaries on record.
