UPDATE: ROCK COUNTY -- The Rock County Sheriff's Department says a shooting incident at a home the 6700 block of Stuart Rd. was an attempted murder/suicide.
Sheriff Robert Spoden told reporters during a news conference that they were called to the home at around 8:15am for a report of a shooting. The SWAT team was deployed, and found a woman in a barn in her late 50's or early 60's who had been shot to death. A man in his early 70's was found in a nearby shed with self-inflicted gunshot wounds but still alive. He was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Madison hospital.
The Sheriff says it appears that no one else was involved in the incident, and the scene is now secure, but they ask people avoid the area while their investigation continues.
They have not publicly identified either the man or the woman until family can be notified, but did confirm the two were related.
