Machesney Park - In less than three weeks residents will pay an extra 5% on their utility tax and the village's president says there's nothing he can do about it.
Instead, Tom Strickland, who strongly opposed the tax, hopes his replacement will eliminate it. With a board shake-up in store after the April election it's possible the tax could be repealed.
As it stands now though the tax will take effect March 1. On average, residents will pay an extra $8/month on their utilities.
