Rockford, Illinois-The IceHogs have some ground to make up in the race to make the AHL playoffs. Their loss to Peoria Wednesday put them in last place in their division two points behind Peoria.
The Hogs are also 14th out of 15 teams in the Western Conference.
How much attention are the IceHogs paying to the division race at this point, and are they thinking about the playoffs? Center Brandon Pirri says 'yes'.
"We've been thinking playoffs since day one. We don't want to waste any game. Every point matters at the beginning of the year and the end of the year, so we're just going into every game thinking it's two points, and it's going to help us get close to the playoffs. That's our goal."
On the other hand coach Ted Dent says the IceHogs can't get too wrapped up ini the points race. "We can't get too caught up in the standings every day. It can get frustrating at times, so we just have to keep getting better every day and chip away and get as many points as we can."
The IceHogs will host Abbotsford Saturday night and Lake Erie Sunday evening.
