In just a few short months Illinois lawmakers will be forced to address one of the states biggest controversies...concealed carry. So to prepare for what he calls the inevitable, one man is hosting firearms training classes that could allow Stateliners to carry guns across most of the United States.

Ricky Davis plays host to the training classes allowing participants to brush up on gun safety at  his Rockford business he says". if you're going to have concealed carry you should know how to shoot a gun and you should be able to hit a target from a short distance ." originally the classes were  designed for family and friends, but Davis says the class popularity has since exploded, and now includes a wide variety of  students from across the Stateline. He told us "its not the young white male or the young black male--we have sixty year olds, we have seventy year old ladies--we have 20 year olds, 30 year olds everybody in this class that is concerned about safety  ..."

Retired police officer John Royster teaches the gun safety classes, a strong advocate of concealed carry  he says when it comes down to it--concealed carry is about protecting Stateline  residents telling our cameras ".its kind of like putting your seatbelt on in your car, even very few of us get into car accidents but it makes you feel safe .."

Besides feeling safe Royster says concealed carry would act as a natural  deterrent forcing would be criminals to think twice --though he admits there are some exceptions  adding, ".and not that this would be a deterrent for all criminals, because some criminals will target anybody--but after concealed carry this will deter a lot of crimes .."

Royster just hopes Illinois politicians will make what he calls the right decision
