Rockford, Illinois-Add a couple more firsts to Danica Patrick's list of racing achievements. Sunday she earned the pole position for next Sunday's Daytona 500. The Roscoe native becomes the first woman to win the pole for that race or for any Sprint Cup race.
Patrick was the eighth racer on the track Sunday. Here top speed was 196.434mph. Jeff Gordon was the only other driver to top 196mph.
"I'm proud of all the hard work that goes into making a pole car," said Patrick to Fox Network. "It's not just turning left. It's so many other thing. It's all the attention to detail that these guys put in over the winter. I can't be more proud of them."
"This just speaks volumes about Stewart-Haas racing. It shows what a great organization it is," said Patrick.
This marks Patrick's fourth season of NASCAR racing, but only her first full-time on the Sprint Cup Series.
You can see the Daytona 500 next Sunday (Feb. 24) on Fox 39.
