For the past few years it hasn't been easy to be a homeowner.  Decreases in property value couple with increases in property tax has spelled diasater for Stateline residents. so to help ease the burden 68th representative john Cabello has introduce legislation that would give homeowners some much needed relief, because as Cabello put it.". we're taxing people out of their homes."

Cabello says even before he was a state rep, he always heard the same thing from local  residents, they're property taxes were way too high. As he told us ".hearing that over and over again, its time to do something about it...if the state gets rid of these taxes more people will have more money in their pocket so hopefully, number one they'll save more and number two they'll spend more if they have it .."

The proposed bill would freeze property tax rates for the next five years, and while he admits that would mean less money for the state, he says its money they don't need, adding "..believe it or not Illinois doesn't have a revenue problem, we brought in I believe  last year the most money than the state has brought in...we have a spending problem ."

A  problem  that he says needs to be reigned in soon, as for the bill itself Cabello says its gained some support from both sides of the aisle but given the  house's history for dragging their feet he admits it might be a struggle getting  the bill passed, but he told us, ".I'm going to fight as hard as i can to make sure that it does, if it doesn't I'm going to intro duce it again and again until we finally get like minded people to understand tax payers come first ."
