ROCKFORD -- A natural gas line break in the area 1200 block of Holland St. in Rockford has forced the closure of the block, and could affect gas service for areas as far as 5 miles away.
A Nicor gas crew at the scene tells Eyewitness News that a city crew dealing with a water valve issue in the area may have accidentally ruptured the gas line. Nicor gas and fire crews have been dispatched to the area. Holland St. between Loomis and Montague has been evacuated as a precaution.
It is unknown how long gas service will be disrupted.
