Americans Spent Over $53 Billion On Pets In 2012

According to the American Pet Products Association, Americans spent more than $53 billion on food, veterinary care, kennels and other services in 2012.
That's up 5% from 2011 when spending first past the $50 billion mark. APPA president Bob Vetere predicts that spending will gain another 4% this year.
Pet owners shelled out money mostly for food and vet care -- about $34.3 billion. Spending on services such as grooming, boarding, hotels and pet sitting registered in at $4.4 billion.
