Rockford-
Pastors, teachers and residents demanded change outside of Rockford's Federal Courthouse. Church leaders gave speeches on how guns have torn their neighborhoods apart. Meanwhile, some people held posters supporting a universal background check for all gun buyers. Including for customers attending private sales and gun shows not just stores.

The group also gathered signatures to pass a ban on assault weapons and magazines with more than ten bullets. Church leaders prayed for stricter laws in Rockford and across the country.

Director of Rockford Urban Ministries Stanley Campbell says "you have to be brave and stand up and say we do not want to live in fear. We do not want to so many guns flooding our community we have to put controls on it."

Greater Emmanuel Pentecostal Assembly Pastor Annie Davis explains "I don't think they understand you hurt more than one person you devastate a whole family."

Moveon.org put the gathering together and will hold more rallies to end gun violence this spring.

Comments

Rockfords problem with guns is with the gangs and they can't even control the gangs because of the judicial system being a revolving door. Boone and Rock County control their gangs through prosecution. Gang members are not going to come in for a background check so they can buy weaponsand they are not using assault weapons and high capacity magazines so all your meetings and signatures are just a feel good effort and ineffective. Try holding hands, lighting canddles and walk around the block singing again...it will get the same results.
