Police Continue to Investigate Monday Night Murder

ROCKFORD - The shooting happened late Monday night in the Fairgrounds
public housing complex in west Rockford.
Police say 20-year-old Jimmy Hollins was shot in the 300
block of Underwood Street, and he was then taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital
where he was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m.
Police say an issue between Hollins and another man inside
this apartment led to the shooting.
When officers arrived on scene, they found bullet holes in
the front and back doors to the apartment.
Investigators spent the night documenting the scene and gathering
evidence.
"There was a gathering at the apartment," said Rockford
Police Lieutenant Marc Welsh. "There was
an incident during the gathering which led to the gunfire, and the victim after
the gathering, was transported to a local hospital where he died."
A witness Eyewitness News spoke to at the scene says she
heard 6 to 7 gunshots, saw people helping Hollins out the door, she then saw
him collapse just before he got into a car.
Investigators say they have persons of interest, but no
suspects have been named.
Police are investigating several other suspicious deaths
from earlier this year that could be ruled homicides, but to date this is the
first confirmed murder in the
