Belvidere - The District 100 school board and Belvidere parents get their first and only chance to ask questions about the latest option put forth by administrators to balance the budget

More than 30 people spoke at Monday night's school board meeting in Belvidere.  Most asked the board members to not rush to any decision and to take more time to consider the cuts.

Some asked that the Arts and Music programs be left alone, while other didn't want to see Kishwaukee and Perry elementary schools closed.

But some board members say decreasing state funding and the likelihood that the state will shift pension costs to local districts is their reasoning for wanting to make deeper cuts sooner.

All options being considered by the school board have been posted to District 100's website.

The school board will meet on Monday, March 18th at Belvidere North High School to vote on cuts and grade reconfiguration.
