Update (7:00 am)
DEA rejects proposal put forward by Dixon Public Schools Board of Education.
The proposal was for a three-week "Cooling off" period that would have had teachers and students back in the classroom this morning.
From the Dixon Schools website:
"This three-week period would be followed by our scheduled week of Spring Break. Throughout this period, the Board and DEA would continue to negotiate under the guidance of a federal mediator in the hopes of achieving resolution. "
The district is set to lose state funding for every day they remain out of the classroom.
"Unfortunately, the DEA has rejected this proposal. We will continue to work with ISBE to explore other options to maintain our District's recognition status, allow our students to complete ISAT testing and to protect our ability to secure the state funding that has been jeopardized by this strike."
The two sides are slated to meet again today at noon.
