Early Morning Icy Conditions Lead to Dozens of Accidents

ROCKFORD-- Icy conditions have led to reports of dozens of crashes, including a rollover a crash on the US-20/I-39 overpass that backed up westbound traffic on U.S. 20 all the way to the tollway. There was also a report of an ambulance crash on U.S. 20 at Meridian road.
Light overnight snow froze on many road surfaces, causing slick conditions. The city of Rockford began salting operations at 5am. State salt trucks have been deployed as well.
Officials ask drivers to be careful until conditions improve.
