Rockford - A big lunch party was held today to thank the Stateline volunteers and donors who raised millions for the United Way.
The Rock River Valley United Way raised nearly $5 million for local organizations last year, the highest total in five years. Organizers say this lunch was the least they can do for such a successful campaign and it's proof Northern Illinois residents came through when it counted. "What it says about the Rock River Valley is we're a community that still can work together to face the challenges in our two-county area" says Paul Logli, CEO of the local chapter of the United Way.
Donations help dozens of programs provide food and shelter for people in need, assist the elderly, and provide counseling and crisis services.
