Chicago, Illinois-March Madness is definitely here. The Fighting Illini pulled out a 51-49 win over Minnesota in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament Thursday on a buzzer-beater by Brandon Paul.
Paul hit a fadeway jumper from the left wing as time ran out. That capped a 25 point day for Paul.
The Illini led by as many as 12 points in the game before the Gophers rallied to take a four point lead.
The Illini bounced back though. D.J. Richardson's three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining tied the game at 49 and set up Paul's heroics.
The Illini are now 22-11. They'll play top seed Indiana Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinals.
