Rockford- Winnebago County Judge John Truitt denied a motion to release Todd Smith, 45, on a lower bond amount. Smith's bond remains at $4 million dollars.  Judge Truitt listened to four separate testimonies including Smith.

Two of Smith's close friends Darrell Derry and Kevin Anderson testified including his former attorney Francis Martinez.

Smith faces seven murder charges among others related to Katrina Smith's death. He's pleaded not guilty. If Smith is found guilty he faces life in prison.

Katrina Smith was last seen on October 22nd.

Prosecutors suggest Smith's husband beat her with a baseball bat, put her into the trunk of her car and dumped her body. Katrina's body was pulled from the Rock River in Ogle County on November 9th. Police later found a baseball bat with Katrina's DNA in Todd Smith's home.

Today Smith's defense attorneys argue his prints were not found on the bat or on Katrina's car.

Todd Smith also faces charges in Stephenson County for fraud related to his insurance sales business. Smith is formerly known as Todd Raprager. Under that name he was convicted of arson in 1988.

His next status hearing is scheduled for April 17th  at 9 A.M.
